Helmet Request in Color - Nikon D90

This was a request from a buddy to shoot creative ideas of his dad's helmet I borrowed.

I'm forcing myself to carve out time daily to practice. Composition is #1 goal, not soooo worried about clinical technical settings right now (although as I practice things I once knew are coming back and I'm learning much more about the camera ... simple things I didn't know before).

For a couple years, I decided to put it on the back burner and help my best friend with her projects anytime I could and share what I knew.

Now, is her absence, this is the only link left to years of memories.

Settings here:
- tri pod at lowest height
- or sitting the camera on the ground and securing it
- self timer mode ( pressing the button by hand regardless of how steady in dark room for over 2sec exposure caused blur)
- Manual mode
- Whit balance: Auto
- Various f tops: from 3.5 to 5.6
- Various shutter speeds: from 1.3" to 10"

Props:
- A large white board set on the ground in gloss white to provide the reflective smooth ground cover
- Laptop screen in brightest setting + a black notepad doc opened. This provided background and defused or targeted lighting since I don't have lighting equipment I tend to improvise ( it's more fun for me that way anyways ... my engineering hat goes on to find solutions )
- Various objects to provide slightly elevated platform since my tri pod only goes down so far)

Editing:
- I don't have photoshop and will never own it or use it
- Part of the fun for me is coming up with creative shots either in frame with lighting and angles OR the BASIC filters in PICASA
- Filters used here: contrast, B&W infrared, Inverted, Pencil Sketch. Saturation tweak to remove a TINY bit of the extra blue Nikons pull in specially at night with longer shutter values
- usually ONLY contrast is what I adjust ( to pull shadows in slightly and remove the hazy look in some shots )
